Artiste plasticienne diplômée de l’ESA Tourcoing et ingénieure, Stéphanie Laleuw développe une recherche où l’ornement s’affirme comme une force expansive et structurante. En rupture avec la neutralité du modernisme, elle déploie une « abstraction élargie » qui réintègre le sensible et le vivant au cœur de la création.

Sa pratique, ancrée dans la répétition et la saturation, utilise le textile et la broderie pour opérer une mise en abyme de la surface picturale vers l’espace immersif. Ce travail sur la matière vernaculaire permet un glissement de la sphère intime à l’espace public. Cette approche a été mise en lumière lors de son exposition monographique Pour quels motifs ? à La Manufacture de Roubaix en 2023, suite à l’obtention du Prix de la Manufacture.

Inscrivant sa démarche dans la filiation du mouvement Pattern & Décoration, elle revendique l’usage de codes historiquement associés au féminin comme une stratégie critique pour interroger les mécanismes d’invisibilisation des récits relégués aux marges. Son travail a fait l’objet de présentations internationales, notamment au Cermodern d’Ankara en Turquie.

Soutenue par la DRAC Hauts-de-France (AIC 2021, 2023), Stéphanie Laleuw collabore avec des institutions majeures, notamment pour le dispositif artistique HAPPY POP (2024), produit par le Centre Pompidou. Dans ses installations, la prolifération des motifs agit comme une forme de résistance vitale, défendant une vision inclusive et métissée de l’art contemporain.

A visual artist holding an MFA from ESA Tourcoing (graduated with honors) and a professional engineer, Stéphanie Laleuw develops a practice where ornament asserts itself as an expansive and structural force. Breaking away from the neutrality of modernism, she deploys a « Material Specific Abstraction » (MSA) that reintegrates sensitivity and the living world at the heart of creation.

Her practice, rooted in repetition and saturation, utilizes textiles and embroidery to create a mise en abyme of the pictorial surface toward immersive space. This work on vernacular materials allows for a shift from the private sphere to the public space. This approach was highlighted during her solo exhibition Pour quels motifs ? at La Manufacture de Roubaix in 2023.

Inscribing her work within the lineage of the Pattern & Decoration movement, she claims the use of codes historically associated with the feminine as a critical strategy to question the mechanisms of invisibilization of marginalized narratives. Her work has been presented internationally, notably at Cermodern in Ankara, Turkey.

Supported by the DRAC Hauts-de-France (AIC 2021, 2023), Stéphanie Laleuw collaborates with major institutions, notably for the artistic installation HAPPY POP (2024), produced by the Centre Pompidou.
